In the 380 square foot, phase 1 renovation, the full bathroom floor (concrete slab) is covered with cork tile which was glued down with Shelter Ecology’s 3 in 1 Adhesive from AFM. The unfinished tiles were then coated with 1 layer of OS color Hard Wax Oil. (AFM Safecoat now makes a similar Oil Wax for floors which Shelter Ecology, Inc. offers) That one coat has lasted 4 years now, showing no signs of wear! The shower and woodstove hearth tile are made from about 75% recycled automobile windshield glass- also glued down with the AFM 3 in 1 Adhesive. This tile is more expensive than your average tile, but it is also much more durable than your average ceramic tile because of it’s high glass content. As the old saying goes "you get what you pay for." Cindy tries to educate her customers on this fact. Her thoughts are: "When building a home that is going to provide a safe and comfortable place for you and your family for a long time, it is important to choose durable, quality, low toxic materials, even if it means paying higher prices for them."
