Cindy loves to experiment with organic gardening in her spare time (when she is not mountain biking, working out or hiking). The Pattons have a small parcel of land, which Cindy has managed to fill with native perennial flower gardens, and raised vegetable garden beds. The raised beds were completed last year using the French bio intensive method of double digging. There was a lot of clay so Cindy was selective about the amount of dug up earth she returned back into the bed, augmenting it instead with compost, worm castings and other organic goodies to make those veggies grow! The Pattons harvest their greens all through the winter by stretching remay (white landscape fabric) over hoop tunnels when a hard freeze comes. Cindy hopes to propagate her own seeds for her vegetables in her portable green house this year. Always something new to try in the garden!
