We discovered in the fall of 2006, that our municipal water system had fungus in it. We had been ingesting it for years, without knowing it. Why? With municipal water systems, fungus is not usually a suspected toxin due to the high chlorine content added to the water system to prevent this problem.
Apparently our local holding tank (for our community) was the problem. My husband and I had been suffering from fungus related symptoms for years, but never suspected the culprit. So I began a desperate search for the best solutions.
If you have a fungus problem in your water, the CuZn system will not remove it, nor will it remove Copper or Fluoride. We found all these contaminants to be a problem in our water through chiropractic testing - or applied kinesiology.
We ended up with a combination of a 3 stage Doulton filter with a cartridge for Fluoride removal, a ceramic cartridge for heavy metals including copper and a carbon block filter for the rest of the "normal" contaminants like pesticides, bacterias and parasites. Before the water runs through that filter, it runs through a sediment filter and an Ultra Violet light. The Ultra Violet light targets fungus and mold. In the end we have very pure water without using Reverse Osmosis.
We did not want Reverse Osmosis because of the water waste involved. For every gallon of RO water, you end up wasting around 3 gallons. We also did not want to loose the trace minerals from our water, which we know, is an important part of balance in the human body.
The Doulton filter, UV light and sediment filter were all purchased through Promolife.com. I found this company to be very professional, knowledgeable and caring about the specific problems that we faced. I recommend contacting them for mysterious water issues you might have. Otherwise, the CuZn systems are great.
 The following information explains CuZn filtration options and should allow you to make an intelligent decision Concerning your water filtration needs.
- Oxidation/Reduction (or Redox) removes dissolved gases such as chlorine, hydrogen sulfide and methane from water. They can also remove virtually any soluble heavy metal and reduce levels of microorganisms.
- Dechlorinating - copper - zinc redox media consistently removes 99% of chlorine from drinking water by electrochemically reducing dissolved chlorine gas to water - soluble chlorine ions.
- Remove Heavy Metals - redox media removes up to 98% of water - soluble cations of lead, mercury, copper, nickel, chromium, cadmium, arsenic, antimony, cobalt & most other dissolved heavy metals upon contact.
- Controlling micro-Organisms - Water treated with one redox medium comprised of copper - zinc alloy reduces bacteria and other microorganisms by disrupting electron transport, causing a cascade of cellular damage.
- Preventing Hardness & Scale Accumulation - redox alloy media prevents the formation and accumulation of mineral hardness scale, primarily calcium carbonate. Hardness scale from untreated water is formed by relatively large, irregularly shaped crystals of calcium & magnesium mineral salts. These salts form a hard, insoluble and interlocking network of vitreous limestone scale, which plugs plumbing a damages equipment.
- Remove Iron - Redox filter media combines dissolved oxygen and soluble ferrous iron. This also reduces iron, bacteria and the hydrogen sulfide by product from decomposing iron bacteria colonies.
How Copper-Zinc Water Treatment Systems Work:
Works alone or in combination with traditional treatment process (such as carbon & reverse osmosis). Copper-Zinc can extend the life of traditional treatments by maintaining a bacteriostatic environment inside the filter, and by leaving a residual of copper and zinc hydroxides in the treated water to discourage bacterial growth.

A great filter for home or office
An excelent choice if you have a severe water problem (e.g., iron, sulfur) and can't have a Whole-House System
Clean water is the lifeline to good health and CuZn™ Refillable 101 Filters provide the best possible water for cooking, drinking, and washing every time you turn on the faucet. Using a combination of trace minerals (copper and zinc in the patented form of KDF® which meets NSF standards 42 and 61) and coconut shell carbon, the systems filter more than 600 contaminants from water, including chlorine, lead, heavy metals, trihalomethanes, herbicides, and pesticides much the same as Nature uses the earth and its minerals to cleanse water. (Unlike carbon-only filters, bacteria can't grow inside the bacteriostatic CuZn filters!) The Refillable 101 series is also excellent in situations where sulfur and iron are present and a CuZn Whole House system is not feasible. Sulfur and iron expends the media more quickly than other contaminants, so refilling the system is economical and environmentally responsible.
The Refillable Countertop 101 (CT-101) system treats all incoming cold water that goes to the kitchen sink. Turn on your cold water faucet for an uninterrupted supply of fresh, clear, filtered water. The Countertop 101 can also filter hot water, provided it is flushed with cold water afterward to release the heat that would otherwise be trapped within the filter housing.
The Countertop 101 is available with a swivel spout (CT-101S) or double diverter (CT-101D). Filtered water comes through the spout on the CT-101S. the double diverter on the CT-101D has a twin-hose set-up so that water enters the filter from the kitchen faucet, goes through the filter, and then returns to the kitchen faucet where it is released. The advantage of the double diverter model is that the filter body can be set back away from the sink. The swivel spout, however, allows talle glasses and pots to be placed under it to catch the water.

Using a stainless steel 60-mesh pre-filter as well as a combination of trace minerals (copper and zinc in the patented form of KDF® which has been tested to NSF Standards 42 and 61) and coconut shell carbon, the Travel Filter removes or reduces hundreds of contaminants from water, including chlorine, lead, heavy metals, trihalomethanes, herbicides, and pesticides much the same as Mother Nature uses the earth and its minerals to cleanse water and unlike carbon-only filters, bacteria can't grow inside the bacteriostatic CuZn filters! The Travel Filter also features a post-filter that removes Sediment down to 25 microns, and it's tall spout assures you plenty of room to fill pitchers and the like.
Use the CuZn Travel Filter on chlorinated water supplies. Turn on your faucet and slide the diverter for an uninterrupted supply of fresh, clear, filtered water. The Travel Filter features a removable swivel spout that pops out to make the filter easier to pack. With the spout removed, the filter occupies less than 25 cubic inches.
The Travel Filters diverter screws on to the end of the faucet. Simply unscrew the faucets existing aerator and replace it with the aerator/ diverter that comes with the filter. Snap removable spout into a hole in the center of filter body, and turn on water.
Because the Travel Filter combines two filtration Media into one housing, it removes contaminants longer than carbon-only systems can. The Travel Filter has an estimated capacity of 1,500 gallons or one year whichever comes first. Water flows through the filters at up to 3/4 gpm. This unit is meant to be used on travels rather than as a daily household filter.

Filter Foam Power Disks use an all-natural process that works by catalytic action and the redox (reduction/oxidation) principal of dissimilar metals. As water passes through the Power Disks, a chemical reaction causes zinc and copper hydroxides to form in controlled amounts. These controlled releases of copper and zinc oxides are carried into the filtered water where they provide hostile conditions for bacteria, algae and fungus growth.
