This durable LEED certified recycled glass and concrete solid surface countertop offers a nice pallate of colors ranging from earth tones to more festive colors. IceStone is strong, heat resistant, scratch resistant, suitable for interior and exterior use. Low PH cleaners, caranuba wax or water based sealers 1 time yearly are all that is needed for maintenance over time. The cement in IceStone is 13,000 PSI making it less porous and while you can cut on this surface, the glass can ruin knives, so a cutting board is recommended.
There are 6 price group levels for IceStone and overall price is based upon fabrication costs. General pricing is $75 - $130 per foot and there are 2 fabricators locally that are qualified to work with IceStone. New River Concrete Countertops: are made of sand and gravel from the New River, which is collected during regular, low impact dredging to maintain two dams in Grayson County, Virginia.
This beautiful aggregate has a low embodied energy and does not require mining or long distance hauling. The countertops have recycled content, including recycled iron oxide to stain some of the concrete mixes. The countertops are ground, polished, and sealed to make them heat resistant and virtually stain resistant.
Catagories where credits can contribute to LEED certification are: Recycled Content MR4, Local Regional Materials MR5, Low Emitting Materials EQ4.
